W/O Charles Brown
 

Charles Francis Brown was part of 92 Squadron when it re-formed at Tangmere on 10/10/1939.He started his RAF career in 1924 at 15 years of age.He was twice mentioned in Despatches for distinguished service.The following is reproduced from Squadron Routine Orders.“On 21st February, 1943, a Wellington aircraft caught fire on an airfield in Tripolitania, (Now Libya)the crew being trapped inside.365145 F/Sgt. Brown and 969070 Cpl.Finnie, with complete disregard for their own personal safety, entered the aircraft on two occasions, rescued two members of the crew and made further splendid efforts to rescue another member of the crew”For this Charles F Brown was awarded the British Empire Medal which he received from the King in 1945.He left 92 Squadron on 1/10/1943 to join 208 Squadron.
